Be sure to check out all of our great Cannabis Products! So, what is THCa? THCa, or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is one of the major cannabinoids found in the cannabis, or hemp, plant. THCa is unlike other cannabinoids in that it doesn't produce a psychotropic effect when ingested, but rather when heated through a process called decarboxylation. Decarboxylation, or "decarbing" for short, converts some of the available THCa to Delta-9-THC which produces the traditional "high" associated with marijuana. Delta-9 interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system similarly to other cannabinoids like Delta-8-THC, Delta-10-THC, Delta 6a10a THC, and HHC, to produce an uplifting, euphoric effect with increased focus and energy. Delta-9-THC is also known for its anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), antiemetic (anti-nausea), analgesic (pain relieving), orexigenic (appetite stimulant) and neuroprotective properties.

THCa Flower & Pre-Rolls: FAQs

What are the effects of THCa?

THCa effects are often compared to those of THC, but how you consume your THCa can shape your specific experience. When THCa is exposed to heat, it converts into the standard form of THC. So, THCa flower and pre-rolls generally produce THC effects when smoked. CannaBuddy customers describe THCa benefits that include:
  • Reduced stress
  • Relief from pain/discomfort
  • A more positive mood
  • A boost of energy, focus, and motivation
  • Increased appetite
  • A pleasantly euphoric state of mind
In its raw (unheated) form, THCa may still have certain effects. However, most people will not experience a psychoactive "high" when consuming raw cannabis with THCa. The benefits of THCa can also vary based on the specific strain you select, as each strain has its own unique cannabinoid and terpene profile. Also, varying cannabinoid potency levels can play a part in the overall intensity of a product's effects.

How do you use THCa flower and pre-rolls?

If you have any experience with cannabis or hemp flower and/or pre-rolls, you'll be happy to hear that there is no learning curve when it comes to enjoying THCa-rich strains. Each THCa pre-roll has been professionally rolled and is ready to use, no preparation required. If you prefer THCa flower, you can consume it as a joint or a blunt, or pair it with your preferred pipe or bong. For anyone that is new to THCa or THC, it is generally a good idea to begin with a relatively short smoke session. That way, you can get a feel for how THCa affects you, and then work your way up until you reach your desired experience.

What are the benefits of using THCa flower and pre-rolls?

THCa's benefits are the topic of many ongoing research studies, as the scientific community is continuously learning more about this cannabinoid. However, the research thus far has many people excited about the potential of THCa. Recent studies show that THCa may be able to provide:
  • Symptom relief for individuals with gastrointestinal conditions, including IBS and colitis
  • Neuroprotective benefits that may prevent and/or slow the progress of neurodegenerative conditions such as Huntington's disease
  • Support for individuals with seizure disorders

How is THCa different from THC?

The primary difference between THCa and THC lies in their molecular structures. Although they are both forms of the same chemical compound, THCa has an additional carboxyl ring. As a result, THCa does not bind to the receptors in the brain that create the feeling of being "high," whereas THC does. This carboxyl ring is the reason why THCa will not produce notable psychoactive effects. However, the process by which you consume THCa can change this. Exposing THCa to heat induces a process called "decarboxylation," which is the removal of THCa's extra carboxyl ring. Smoking, dabbing, or vaping THCa essentially turns it into THC, and will deliver a traditional THC experience.

Is THCa legal?

THCa might not have the same psychoactive properties as the well-known THC cannabinoid, but it is nevertheless legally viewed as basically the same thing. In most states, THCa is regulated according to cannabis laws, because it turns into THC when heated. Depending on where you are located, you may be allowed to purchase THCa products for recreational and/or medical purposes. There are certain states in which cannabis legalization is still in the early stages, and THCa may be more strictly controlled. We highly recommend checking THCa laws in your state to get the most accurate information.
