So, what is CBG? Cannabigerol (CBG) is one of the first cannabinoids to show up on the cannabis plant. CBG is the decarboxylated form of the “mother of all cannabinoids” cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). All other cannabinoids are biosynthesized or originate from CBG. Young cannabis plants must be harvested as they contain the most amount of CBG. Once a plant begins to mature, CBG converts into CBDA, THCA, and CBCA leaving only trace amounts of CBG.
Like cannabidiol (CBD), CBG has no psychoactive effects like Delta 9, Delta 10, or HHC, but it does have phenomenal therapeutic effects. CBG not only bonds and activates the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system, it also has a high affinity for the α2 adrenergic receptors and moderate activity at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors.
