So, what is THCV? THCV is one of the 100+ cannabinoids found in the cannabis, or hemp, plant. Similar to other cannabinoids, it is believed to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system – specifically the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the nervous system. It offers a unique array of effects and potential medical benefits that sets it apart from other cannabinoids. Some of the potential benefits of THCV are: it can act as an appetite suppressant (as an anorectic), it can assist with regulating diabetes symptoms (for glycemic control), it can assist in bone growth (has regenerative properties), it helps reduce panic attacks (has anti-anxiety properties), and shows promise to help offset the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

THCV is short for tetrahydrocannabivarin. Like every other cannabinoid, it’s associated with its unique properties. You might notice that the name resembles tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). That’s because the chemical structure is similar, too.

As we learn more about cannabis, we learn that many cannabinoids are extremely similar but not exactly the same. For example, Delta 8 THCDelta 9 THC, and Delta 10 THC, and are all different. Because each has unique properties, people buy them all for different reasons.

What are THCV’s effects and benefits?

THCV is believed to have multiple effects and benefits. The following are some of the most commonly discussed.

THCV Weight Loss

Yes, you read that correctly. Many people say THCV helps them with their weight loss journeys. This is a surprise to many people because THC is so heavily associated with an increase in appetite. Surprisingly, THCV might do the exact opposite: make you less hungry.

THCV for Diabetes

As an added bonus, there are some early indications that THCV can help regulate blood sugar levels. It’s also being investigated as a means to reduce insulin resistance.

THCV Appetite Suppressant

While some people become interested in THCV exactly for this reason, there are also situations where people might want to avoid THCV if it suppresses their appetites. For example, some people have a hard time working up their appetite to get enough nutrition. While those people might enjoy THC, THCV could be counterproductive.

Psychological and Psychoactive Effects of THCV

Some people, especially those with trauma from the past, have claimed THCV helps them reduce their anxiety without making them feel like their emotions are flattened out completely. At higher doses, the cerebral effects of THCV are said to be more psychoactive, almost like what you might expect from typical THC.

Additional Benefits

As scientists discover additional cannabinoids, they study them for all types of reasons. As THCV goes, it’s being looked at for its ability to promote new bone growth for people with osteoporosis and similar conditions. Some even believe it could act as a neuroprotectant and help with symptoms like tremors and motor control.

Understanding the benefits of THCV

Remember that THCV products have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any other government institution. In other words, they aren’t officially approved as treatments for any of the above or for any other conditions. It will take more research before we can say with any level of certainty that THCV cures or treats anything.

Rather, the list above covers the potential benefits and effects of THCV. That’s not to say that this is total guesswork, either. Many of our customers say they perceive the above benefits after enjoying THCV products. We also have researchers and cannabis thought leaders like Leafly who say that THCV might possess these benefits.

Is THCV Legal?

Of all of the many benefits listed above, this is one of the main reasons our customers say they became interested in THCV in the first place. THCV is a legal cannabinoid, depending on the plant it comes from. In the United States, we categorize cannabis as either marijuana or hemp:

  • Marijuana is cannabis with more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by weight. It is illegal on a federal level in the United States, though it may be medically or recreationally legal in some individual states.
  • Hemp is cannabis with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by weight. It is legal on a federal level in the United States because of the Farm Bill.

Once you know that you can get THCV from hemp, it’s easy to see why so many people are interested in it. You can find THCV for sale in states where you can’t get Delta 9 THC products. You can even buy a THCV product on the internet and get it shipped directly to your door.

Don’t believe us? Just choose any of the products above. We’ll get it to you as soon as possible.

Can THCV get you high?

There’s still some debate over this. The scientific answer is complicated, and it concerns whether the cannabinoid acts as an agonist or an antagonist. The simple answer is that it comes down to how much THCV you consume.

Our customers normally say that a small amount of THCV doesn’t seem to produce a psychoactive high but that a larger amount will. As always, the best bet is to “start low and go slow” to ensure you’re comfortable with how you feel!
