So, what is CBN? CBN is one of the 100+ cannabinoids found in the cannabis, or hemp, plant. Like other cannabinoids, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system – specifically the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the nervous system – to produce a sedating effect. Consumers report that it has been effectively used as a sleep aid. Similar to CBD, CBN has also been shown to help regulate the immune system and works to relieve pain (as an analgesic) and reduce inflammation (as an anti-inflammatory). It has also been reported to be used as an antibacterial agent, a neuroprotectant, an appetite stimulant (has orexigenic properties), and shows promise for glaucoma treatment.

What is Sublingual CBN?

Sublingual CBN is a category of products that includes CBN tinctures and CBN oil. “Sublingual” means “under the tongue,” which is especially common in the medical field. It is called this because the oil is placed directly on your sublingual gland, which is the salvia-filled gland under your tongue.

It just so happens that the sublingual gland can help you absorb CBN and other cannabinoids into your bloodstream. When you put a two-in-one CBD CBN oil under your tongue and hold it there for a while, your sublingual gland will start processing the CBN oil or tincture into your blood even before you swallow it.

This gets the cannabinoids into your bloodstream significantly faster. If you only swallow the tincture without giving your sublingual gland time to absorb it, you’ll still get the cannabinoids, but you’ll have to wait for them to go through your digestive system to the liver. Some people say it’s worth the wait to mix their sublingual CBN products with food or drink and mask the smell.

Now that you know about sublingual CBN products, you may still wonder about the difference between tincture and oil. Technically speaking, a tincture is made with an alcohol solution. It’s common in the hemp industry for products to be called tinctures, even when they’re produced by binding cannabinoids to oil.

Should I Try a CBN Only Tincture or the Full Spectrum CBD/CBN?

The difference between a CBN-only product (also called CBN isolate) and a full-spectrum CBN tincture is that full-spectrum products also contain other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes:

  • Other Cannabinoids – Common cannabinoids you might find paired with CBN include CBD and Delta 8 THC. For example, CBN D8 oil is popular because both cannabinoids are both associated with psychoactive effects but are also legal on a federal level in the United States.
  • Terpenes – You probably hear a lot of people talk about terpenes these days. Terpenes are basically like the essential oils of hemp (and some other plants). Many leaders in the cannabis space say that cannabinoids such as CBN interact with the body more completely when they’re in the presence of terpenes. This is called the entourage effect.
  • Flavonoids – The big difference between flavonoids and terpenes is that flavonoids also contribute to the plant’s color. Like terpenes, flavonoids add to the flavor and aroma of cannabis.

Most people want to have flavonoids, terpenes, and other cannabinoids in their sublingual CBN products. This makes full-spectrum CBN oil popular. Broad-spectrum CBN oil is popular, which is like full-spectrum but with some parts of the plant excluded to make the product even better or more legal.

Why use a CBN Tincture?

No matter why you’re interested in CBN as a cannabinoid, there are plenty of reasons to enjoy it in a sublingual format. For one thing, most CBN oils and tinctures come in glass bottles with dropper vials. The vial makes it possible to get exactly the serving size of cannabinoids you want. Simply give the bottle a gentle shake and fill up a certain amount on the vial to get consistent cannabinoids every time.

Another reason to love CBN sublinguals is that they don’t make any smell. Vaping or smoking might be frowned upon for this reason. Then, compared to edibles, people choose sublinguals to avoid sugar and get precise control over serving size. Consuming a product sublingually is also said to be faster than digesting an edible.

Where does CBN come from?

CBN is a cannabinoid, which means it’s found in the cannabis plant. In the United States, people put cannabis into two broad categories: hemp and marijuana. Marijuana is illegal in some states because it contains more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC or more.

Hemp contains smaller amounts of Delta 9 THC and is considered legal because of the Farm Bill. CBN can come from either hemp or marijuana. At CannaBuddy, our CBN comes from legal hemp.

What are the benefits of CBN Tincture?

People say they take CBN for all kinds of reasons. Some say they use it before bed. Others say they use it while they’re trying to work up an appetite for a big meal. Others say they just like the way it makes them feel whenever they go about their days.

Our customers say one of the primary benefits of CBN tincture is that CBN is said to possess psychoactive properties. Some even compare it to “almost like a milder version of THC.” Because CBN is legal in many places where Delta 9 THC is not, people might buy it for that reason. After all, you can ship CBN right to your door if you order online at CannaBuddy.com!
