So, what is HHC? Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is one of 100+ cannabinoids that naturally occur in the cannabis sativa plant. Many people have started to take notice of HHC because of the unique clear-headed euphoric feeling it creates. This psychoactivity is a direct result of HHC bonding with the body’s CB1 receptors in the endocannabinoid system much like Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC. Many cannabis connoisseurs report the euphoria of HHC as more intense than Delta 6a10a and Delta 8, but only about 80% as strong as Delta 9 and Delta 10. Since HHC is the hydrogenated version of CBD, they share the same anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), analgesic (pain relieving), antiemetic (anti-nausea), orexigenic (appetite stimulant), and neuroprotective properties.

What is HHC?

HHC was first discovered in 1940 when THC was exposed to a process called hydrogenation by chemist Roger Adams. He later went on to patent this process in 1947. Trace amounts of HHC have been found to naturally occur within the cannabis sativa plant. Harvesting enough natural HHC to meet market demand would waste quite a bit of plant material. As a result, most HHC is synthesized by exposing CBD to the hydrogenation process. This begins by converting CBD into Delta 9 THC. Next, the Delta 9 isolate has the double carbon bond on the cyclohexyl ring removed and replaced with two hydrogen atoms. This creates the hexahydrocannabinol ring that identifies the cannabinoid as HHC. The molecular weight changes during this process, causing HHC to be more stable. So, it won’t break down as quickly when exposed to UV light.

How is HHC Made?

Synthesizing HHC starts with a high-quality CBD flower. The CBD is extracted, distilled, isolated, and converted into Delta 9 THC. Then, the Delta 9 undergoes the process of hydrogenation. This proprietary process involves multiple steps and extensive training on specific pieces of equipment. HHC manufacturers like to say that Delta 9 goes into their “chemical reactor” and out comes HHC. What actually happens is the double bond is removed from the Delta 9 and replaced with two hydrogen atoms. The end product is a dark gold oil that must be refined and distilled before being added to HHC carts or HHC gummies.

HHC vs THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and HHC both naturally occur within the cannabis sativa plant. Their molecular structure is similar, but where THC has a double bond on its cyclohexyl ring HHC has two hydrogen atoms. This difference means HHC bonds with the body’s endocannabinoid system differently than THC. Both cannabinoids bind to the CB1 receptors, but THC bonds with these receptors much better than HHC. As a result, consumers describe the feeling of THC as intensely cerebral with strong body relaxation. HHC is said to be uplifting and energizing without being intensely psychoactive. Even though they differ in effects these cannabinoids share similar therapeutic properties, such as pain relief, anti-inflammation, and reduced nausea.

HHC vs Delta 8

Many consumers compare HHC to Delta 8 THC when describing the effects and therapeutic benefits. Many enthusiasts report that the euphoria of Delta 8 is less intense and more uplifting than Delta 9 THC. HHC is said to be stronger than Delta 8, but not as intense as Delta 9. Because of this lighter euphoria, consumers prefer HHC before going to the gym or tackling a major project. HHC and Delta 8 THC have very similar molecular structures with one difference. Delta 8 has a double bond on the eighth carbon chain of its structure ring. HHC had the double bond removed and replaced with two hydrogen atoms through a process known as hydrogenation. The effects may be different, but both cannabinoids are still interacting with the endocannabinoid system. This means they have similar therapeutic benefits, including pain relief and reducing anxiety.

What are HHC Carts?

HHC carts are vape cartridges and vape disposables that have been filled with HHC-infused vape juice. Some HHC carts use only HHC, but many pair HHC with other cannabinoids, such as THCB, Delta 8, CBD, and CBG. Terpene profiles are used to enhance the flavor and effect. Popular terpene strains include Cali Gas, Green Crack, and God’s Gift.

Does HHC Get You High?

After using HHC carts, many people say they feel a strong clear-headed euphoria that is uplifting and energizing. Many enthusiasts agree that the effects of HHC are stronger than Delta 8 THC but not as intense as Delta 9.

What are The Effects of HHC?

Euphoric and energizing, but not as cerebrally intense as Delta 9 is how many people feel after consuming HHC. Others say they are uplifted, yet clear-headed with the ability to focus while staying relaxed. These friendlier properties are an appealing option for people seeking a milder relaxation experience.

What are the Benefits of HHC?

The medical research associated with HHC is still limited. HHC has been shown to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, like Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC. As a result, HHC shares many of the same anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), analgesic (pain relieving), antiemetic (anti-nausea), orexigenic (appetite stimulant), and neuroprotective properties.
